PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING SAID ON ANY OF THESE SITES, OR THIS ONE. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.
FIND YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDINGS.
Dope Creature – DJ/Producer/Artist.
The Sultans – Electronic Collaboration.
Tatam Reeves – Hippy Gypsy Music (site coming soon)
Useless Thoughts and Unremarkable Opinions – Comedy Radio Show/Podcast. Give it a listen I’ve been known to show up on a few episodes.
Zeitgeist Edmonton – locals! let’s meet the fuck up!
AlienScientist – I don’t know if this guy is crazy or a genius sometimes but I love watching his videos.
Cvietch – From the ‘Everything Is OK’ guys to ‘The Love Police’, and now what appears to be the launch of something new “The Bluefire Corp.”, Charlie Veitch has put out an extensive library of footage documenting the limits of free speech, and the ever-growing ‘police state’ scenario we have begun to find ourselves in. His attitude and overall message is extremely inspiring. Though I’ve found his recent ideas about humans needing to basically devolve disappointing.
Evid3nc3 – His recent (continuing) work on documenting his ‘deconversion’ from fundamental Christianity to atheism is touching and really enlightening.
TheLeftLibertarian and LeftLibetyAppendix – The reason I even thought that making my own video’s was possible. The first time I watched “Work Sucks,” at work, on my iphone, I got choked up, and I realized the power of the audio/visual medium. Also, his particular brand of Libertarianism is so close to Venus Project ideals that I consider them almost complimentary to each other, in many ways. His videos are extremely well thought out and thought-provoking.
Neanderthalcouzin – Resource Based Economy supporter, extremely articulate, calm, and rational videos with interesting perspectives. A great channel from someone who truly understands the Zeitgeist Movement principles.
NonStampCollector – Probably the mos realistic and funny cartoons about God ever created.
Peacenik – “Be the change you want to see in the world” – Ghandi
SpiritualEntertainer – Danny Shine. After a brief stint as an originial member of The Love Police, he disabled his youtube account, and disappeared for a few months. Now, his channels is back, sans all of it’s old videos, but’s already been uploading some gems. Like this one: “Young Kids On UK Politics“.
theRSAorg – On par with TED for variety and inspirational talks. The “RSAanimate” video’s are especially good.
TED – I’ll just repeat their slogan: ‘ideas worth sharing’.
TheraminTrees – Found this user through his recent collaborations with QualiaSoup. They have similar styles, and I’m enjoying going through his back-catalog.
Thunderf00t – Ok, I’ll admit it. I have a thing for mean British atheists. No. Thunderf00t’s videos may be confrontational but they are also extremely educational and well worth watching.
QualiaSoup – Maybe I keep repeating myself, but huge inspiration. My love of science, and also some of the ideas I’ve had for how to present information in videos came straight from this channel. It was partly after watching “Open Mindedness” that I realized what science truly was. An almost instinctual process we use for making decisions, intelligently applied. (I want to, but this isn’t really the place to get into the negative effects of the monetary system on modern science).
Social Networking! Follow people on twitter who post interesting news stories, look at what your friends are posting and talking about. Also, even though I don’t advise too much of it, it’s good to keep one eye on the mainstream media, and the side that they push. Just don’t become a fear-filled newspaper junkie. I like to skim google news, watch Bill Maher. Do something to keep in touch with what the corporations are pumping out, but remember this is just one perspective, and there are many others. These are some sites I like:
Al Jazeera English – These guys do some very interesting investigative pieces. Strange because I was expecting a bunch of crazy terrorist shouting how they hate America
Gapminder – “Unveiling the beauty of statistics for a fact-based world view.” Quote from the homepage. Couldn’t say it better.
Global Voices - This brilliant site takes news stories from all over the world, and translates them into your language of choice. This site gives a glimpse into what’s going on all over the world, from the perspective of the people living there.
JoVE – The Journal of Visualized Experiments. Scientific journals need no longer be boring papers that only scientists can read and understand. Power of the internet.
Russia Today – Subscribe to this youtube channel. You’ll get far more ‘real’ news than any mainstream press.
The Young Turks – Another youtube news station, because sometimes I do like a comedy break, and their host, while limited in scope, makes some very good points.
V-Radio – Venus Project spokesman Neil Keirnen’s radiocast website. Check the “must see tv” section for some amazing documentaries.
Wikileaks – If for some reason you haven’t heard of this amazing organization yet, Wikileaks provides an outlet for hackers and insiders to release ‘classified’ information to the public, in all it’s raw form and beauty, furthering the openness of information, and the spread of true freedom.
Wolfram Alpha – The goal is to create a computational knowledge base of all human information. Big task, I know, but this site is continuously improving, and is often a useful resource for basic information and statistics, math, among many, many other things.
Remember though, no matter how many sites I list here, your best bet is to google it. I hate to support a billion dollar corporation, but if you want to know about something, search engines, and exploring the internet for yourself is the best way to go about it, in my opinion. Research what you want to research on sites that are interesting to you. Use the internet as a tool to engage your mind!
I hope to add to this section as I become aware of more projects.
Collaborative Consumption – The online hub
Digital Coin – Not ready to ditch money just yet? These guys seem to think they have more abundance based system worked out. I haven’t fully grasped it, but they made ‘Money as Debt‘, so I’m pretty sure they understand the problem. Hey, maybe I’m wrong and they have a better solution.
A Gift Economy – This is just a link to a wikipedia page, but it is an idea well worth looking into.
Open Source Ecology - ’a movement dedicated to the collaborative development of tools for replicable, open source, modern off-grid “resilient communities.” By using permaculture and digital fabrication together to provide for basic needs and open source methodology to allow low cost replication of the entire operation, we hope to empower anyone who desires to move beyond the struggle for survival and “evolve to freedom.”‘
Open Source Movement – Another wikipedia link, because there are lot’s of open source ‘movements’ out there, and the basic premise of most of them is something I resonate with strongly.
